Brome Lake’s Antique Circuit is very popular with lovers of antiques and vintage items, collectors of rarities, bargain hunters and treasure seekers. This pleasant tour will take you to a dozen antique and vintage shops on the 15-km stretch of roads between Knowlton and West Brome.

Follow our map and hunt for unique finds like antique furniture, jewellery, pottery, porcelain, glassware, toys, period artworks and collectibles. You can do part of the circuit on foot, in the village of Knowlton, then continue by car to West Brome for hours of enjoyment in any weather and any season!

Art and Culture

Located in the heart of the charming village of Knowlton on the shores of Brome Lake, a peaceful place surrounded by bucolic landscapes and an ideal source of rejuvenation, Hors-cadre is a space for creation, exhibition and sharing.

The artist-owner, Isabelle Daval, presents her painting and sculpture work as well as that of a dozen artists from the region and elsewhere during the summer season.

Throughout the seasons, workshops, courses and large scale exhibitions are offered such as her 2 duo exhibitions in spring, focus on ceramists and sculptors in October, the large exhibition of small masterpieces in November as well as a Christmas market in December.

Attraction

It began at a picnic on August 18, 1897, on a farm in West Brome, Quebec. The event was the centenary of the first land grant made in Brome Township. The outcome was the Brome County Historical Society, which was incorporated on March 9, 1898, and has since worked diligently to preserve the past for future generations.

Today, the BCHS owns and maintains a number of heritage buildings, which welcome individuals, families and groups. Our extensive Archives delight history buffs and impress the most serious scholars, and our Museum educates and entertains, with displays of artifacts once used by the early people of Brome County. Our new Children’s Museum enables families and young visitors to explore life in 19th century Brome County with interactive exhibits and activities.

The 18-hole “Club De Golf Knowlton” course at the Club De Golf Knowlton facility in Knowlton, Quebec features all the hallmarks of Quebec golf. Club De Golf Knowlton golf course opened in 1921. Alexandre Verhoef manages the course as the House Operation Manager.

Our volunteers are active:

• helping supervise our preteen dances
• on a range of user committees (Lions’ Park, the Centre Lac-Brome, Walking Paths, Douglass Beach)
• in our daycamp and children’s programs
• as Lifetrail peer trainers
• in planning and developing new projects in response to local needs.

Furniture / Decor

Our store in Knowlton, QC was opened in 1982 as an antique and Christmas store and it became a must-see destination in the town. The store was well known for its Department 56 collectable Christmas villages, its all year holiday atmosphere and perhaps most notably, the delicious homemade fudge counter.

Fifteen years later, as the end of the millenium approached, it became clear that the store needed to evolve. In order to replace the diminishing supply of Quebec antiques, we began bringing in containers of antique armoires and trunks from Latvia and Russia. A few short years later we began incorporating our growing furniture department into our floor displays.

The Brome Lake Boating Club was founded in 1901, with W.W. Lynch as the first president. This makes the BLBC the second-oldest sporting Club in the Eastern Townships. The original 1901 mandate stipulated “an association or club was to be formed with a view to recreation, instruction, and amusement, such as rowing, paddling, sailing, and racing of small craft, and for the mutual recreation, instruction and amusement of the members of the association under the name of the Brome Lake Boating Club”.
