The Knowlton Lions Club is now in its 51st year of serving the Knowlton community. The club of now some 46 members works tirelessly all year to meet the needs of those less fortunate among us.
In the past, the Knowlton Lions Club was instrumental in setting up the Lions Park, now run by the municipality. The park encompasses an area of over 40 acres and includes soccer fields, baseball diamonds, tennis courts, a children's playground and a soon-to-be skating rink. The Club was also instrumental in setting up Douglass Beach for the community as well as participating in the construction of the bridge between St. Edouard's School and Knowlton Academy in order that children could travel between the two facilities without using the roads.
Each year the Club hosts a Remembrance Day Breakfast to honour of the veterans, sponsors the Santa Claus Parade, prepares and distributes Christmas baskets for needy families plus toys for children and cheer for shut-ins. The Club also sponsors the Giant Knowlton Garage Sale, the largest recycling event in town.
All funds collected by the Club go back into the community. In 2007, contributions were made to: the First Responders, the Mobile Eye Clinic and Diabetes Screening, the Maison des Jeunes, the Wellness Volunteer Center, Ecole St. Edouard and Knowlton Academy, the Massey-Vanier Scholarship/Bursary Fund, the Scouts, the Brome Historical Society, Lions Park, the Brome Lake Soccer program and needy individuals and families.
